Insult to Elvis' Memory

Don't Be Cruel
"Don't Be Cruel" is definately in my top five favorite Elvis songs of all time. When I hear other artists try to record it, it's like mixing pizza and peanut butter, they just don't mix. One exception to the rule is from the Elvis: Viva Las Vegas documentary when Chris Isaak and Brandi Carlile team up to sing the song as a duet. It's a really good rendition of the classic song especially hearing them sing like they are singing to each other. It's different but pretty damn good. Check out the video!

Jailhouse Rock: Black and White or Color?

I'm a huge fan of Jailhouse Rock (obviously with my pen name) because it shows the raw Elvis of the 50's in a badass sort of way. To me, Jailhouse Rock was never meant to be seen in color even though you can see it that way. It takes away the rawness of the movie and just looks very unnatural to me. This past Elvis Week was awesome because I got to watch Jailhouse Rock on the front lawn of Graceland at the Music and Movies event. Sadly, they wont be doing that this year. Another thing that I love about the move is the awesome soundtrack with my favorite song being "Young and Beautiful." What's sad about the whole thing is three days after completing the film, Elvis' co-star Judy Tyler was killed in an automobile accident which prevented Elvis watching the movie because they were close friends. On a lighter note, the movie has one of the most famous dancing scenes in history and is sometimes credited to be the first music video and that is of course the sequence of "Jailhouse Rock". Little do people know that the choreographer for the movie, Alex Romero, originally created a dance in a style that was geared for a more classically trained dancer than Elvis. After Romero saw that it wasn't going to work for the song, he asked Elvis how would he normally move to the song thus creating Elvis as an uncredited choreographer for the film. Flippy.... real flippy
Vince is back!

Hey everybody! I want to apologize for my hiatus from the best damn Elvis blog on the net. The only excuse I have is that I kept drawing blanks for topics. Don't get me wrong, i'm a huge Elvis fan but Mike is way more knowledgeable towards the King than I ever could be. I want to thank him for keeping the blog going strong and keeping his creation going. I got to thinking and I just said screw it and with the help of Mike's persuasiveness, If I cant make topics to blog about, i'll just rant about Elvis. I hope to make ya'll happy, thanks again!

A Few New Additions To My Elvis Collection

I recently have had a few new additions to my Elvis collection, slowly but surely it's geting bigger. First I purchased the new Mcfarlene figure which was the 68 comeback figure with Elvis in his white suit. Later on I found a killer deal on a 3D wall art movie poster for "Elvis On Tour" also brought out by Mcfarlene toys. I found an awesome deal on the Mcafarlene rockabilly Elvis Figure on Amazon and purchased it, then a friend over the internet shot me an email of an ebay item that was the the 1993 Hasboro 68 Comeback Doll for $15!!! WHAT A STEAL!, I finally recieved it in the mail today. The last two additions are really kool as well, the first one is a book called Elvis American Idol which is really cool, it has a bunch of cool facts abnout huge events and some really good info, Last, a lady at work gave me a memorial magazine that was printed in 1977 after his death, it's in ok condition but I thought it was a cool addition. Remember to be sure to check back during our ELVIS WEEK 08 romp, it's gonna be awesome.

Elvis Week!!!

In just a couple days Mike and I are heading to Memphis for Elvis Week 2008. I went to Elvis Week last year but was only able to stay for only 4 days, this year is gonna my first full Elvis Week. Last year was amazing, the day spent at Graceland was by far my favorite day and to top it off we got to be in the first crowd ever to see movies and music at Graceland. This year is gonna be freaking 10 times better. I'm so excited to experience my first candlelight vigil. Be sure to check back each day where we will blog about our day and hopefully post videos every day of our experience. STAY TUNED!

3000 Miles To Graceland

I just recently watched a movie called 3000 Miles To Graceland. It's a great action flick that stars Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner. This movie is about a gang of guys that rob a casino in Las Vegas during International Elvis Week. This movie has so many Elvis references it's crazy. The soundtrack includes "Trouble" "My Way" "Such A Night" and though it's not sang by Elvis "Money Honey. Since Kurt Russell was in 'It Happened At The World's Fair" with Elvis, they have a couple of references towards the movie such as Kurt Russell getting kicked in the shin like Kurt did to Elvis and Kurt Russell autographing the vinyl copy of the "It Happened At The Worlds Fair" soundtrack. All in all it's a decent movie and pretty fun to watch.

Elvis On Elvis

I recently purchased a DVD titled "Elvis On Elvis". This DVD is pretty much a compilation of pictures of Elvis with interviews over the years about his career. It also has a few performances from different TV show appearences and some concert footage from the 50's. Even though the quality isnt top notch and the audio is not been cleaned up very well, it still is a pretty good documentary with rare footage, interviews with members of the Memphis Mafia, and rare pictures. When I first saw the the DVD on Amazon, I was immediately curious on what it was all about. Finally I ran across a deal I couldn't pass and bought it. The DVD is low budget and has special features that include The Karate Years and a slideshow of rare photos with songs in the background. All in all, for it to be low budget and not endorsed by EPE, it's not half bad. I would reccomend for you to find a good deal and not spend alot of money on it though

Still The King

I ranted in an earlier blog on how people who arent die hard Elvis fans didnt recognize what good he had actually done. As I said in the other blog, Elvis was famous for giving away Cadillacs, cash and jewelryusually on the spur of the moment. But his true generosity and community involvement is not so widely known. In 1961, Elvis gave a benefit concert at Bloch Arena in Hawaii that raised over $65,000 toward the building of the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. The resulting publicity gave life to the fund raising effort, which had lost its momentum. The memorial opened a year later. Audience tickets for his 1973 Aloha from Hawaii television special and its rehearsal show was free but each audience member was asked to pay whatever he or she could. The performances and concert merchandise sales were a benefit raising $75,000 for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund in Hawaii. Each year, for many years, Elvis gave $1,000 or more to each of fifty Memphis charities, but also made other charitable donations in Memphis and around the country. Most of Elvis’ contributions received no publicity at all. Throughout his life, for his friends, family, and even total strangers, he quietly paid hospital bills, bought homes, supported families, paid off debts, and much more. So for all the people that portray Elvis as being a monster, read this blog over really good and rethink your conclusion on what type of man he REALLY was and not what the media and bitter former employees or a crazy step mother and step brothers portrayed him to be.
