Elvis makes list of The 50 Most Stylish Men Of The Past 50 Years

Elvis was named by GQ magazine as one of the 50 most stylish men of the past 50 years. Here is what was wrote in GQ magazine.
"Elvis may have been more about bling and booze in his later years, but early on - according to Bernard Lansky, self-proclaimed clothier to the King - his style was always “clean as Ajax.” A hard thing to pull off as a muddy Mississippi white boy who popularized a defiantly black way of dressing; pegged pants, hi-boy collars, immaculate hair, and the plaid jacket that Lansky tailored for Elvis’s star-turning appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. The King set the sartorial tone for Jerry Lee Lewis and a host of other Memphis rock ’n’ roll legends, all of whom made Lansky’s men’s shop the place to go if you were an up-and-coming musician. And though he may have gone Vegas in later years, Elvis ultimately returned to his roots. “I picked the white linen suit, blue shirt, and white tie he was buried in,” says Lansky, one of the honorary pallbearers at Presley’s funeral. “It was sharp.”"
Alright first of all as great as it is that Elvis was on this list, who the hell wrote this? They obviously don't know much about Elvis. Bling and booze? Ok, Elvis was about some bling, but never booze! Elvis never liked to drink really, and this is just the kind of thing that make me so mad. People who write about Elvis now always seem to just throw stuff out there that they think it right. They never actually do any research if they don't know. Sad thing is that most people that really don't know Elvis might buy into this. Just gives people more to be negative about when talking about Elvis.
Anyway, as far as Elvis and his style of the 50's, he is dead on. One of the first things I really liked about Elvis was his clothing style of the 50's. It was different yet so cool to me. The oversize pegged pants, the oversize jackets, and colors. The white shoes also always appealed to me. Lansky's was the place to shop back in the 50's after Elvis blew up. They still are the place to shop and I try to buy something every time I go to Memphis. Mr. Lanksy is super cool and it is a must to go speak with him when you are in town.

Dale Earnhardt and Elvis to be on race car together

It has been announced that later this month a #3 race car will be introduced with Dale Earnhardt and Elvis both on it. It is part of the "Enduring Legends" series that has saw Earnhardt share a car before with Johnny Cash and John Wayne. The car with Elvis will be unveiled in Las Vegas where it will be in display through the Vegas race. At the first of March the car will be sent to Graceland to be displayed in the automobile museum where it will stay until April. Then the car will be sent to the home office of DEI for display. Collectible editions of this car will be available for purchase. I am very excited about this because I am a huge fan of the Earnhardt's and they are big fans of Elvis'. Dale Jr often speaks of his love for Elvis. It is going to be neat to see this car, hopefully I can make it out to Memphis to see the car in person. I will for sure be getting on the the collectible reproductions to put along with my Budweiser #8 Elvis themed car Dale Jr drove a few years ago.

FTD to release Blue Hawaii

FTD is going to be releasing a 2 disc edition of the Blue Hawaii soundtrack. I have been waiting on this for years. Blue Hawaii is on of my favorite Elvis movies and contains some of my favorite music from his films. Some Elvis fans have a negative reaction to this upcoming release for various reasons. I don't understand the complaints really. I think it is a very good collection of Elvis tunes and one of his best efforts during the movie years. I am excited and can't wait for this to come out.

New additons to Graceland tour

It was announced that some new stuff is to be added to the Graceland tour to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Graceland. Some new stuff is being added to the automobile museum including a skit boat Elvis owned named after his mother. An interactive exhibit called " Elvis Lives: The King and Pop Culture". Also an exhibit called Elvis in Hollywood charting Elvis rise in the movies. I am excited about it all but really think the Elvis in Hollywood thing is going to be cool. Even though a lot of people mock his movies I love them and they are one of the first things I can remember watching when I was young and they introduced me to Elvis. Also he did make a few good movies. Now I am ready to go to Memphis and visit Graceland!

A late Happy Birthday

This past Thursday was Elvis' birthday. I was so wrapped up in the National Championship I didn't have time to get on here to post. Also I was busy watching Elvis On Tour waiting for the game to come on. Some good Elvis movies and documentaries were on this week to celebrate Elvis.

Elvis is number 1.....as usual

The fallowing was found at Elvis News courtesy of yahoo.

Posted on the Y! Music Playlist Blog by Robert of the Radish is a playlist of the biggest selling singles of all time in the United States. The biggest selling single has sold almost twice as many as its closest competition. In 1997, Elton John released a remake of his classic 1973 song "Candle In The Wind" with new lyrics that paid homage to Diana, Princess of Wales after her untimely death. This single sold over 11 million copies in the United States. An incredible figure. Unfortunately, "Candle In The Wind" is not available for streaming via Rhapsody at this time, so it is not included in the final playlist here.
So what are the runners up to "Candle In The Wind 1997"? Well, only two have broken the 6 million mark ("A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis Presley & "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down"), and only 12 have cracked the 4 million mark.
Please note that I am speaking only of sales in the USA. Look for future blog posts to reveal top sellers in other countries and worldwide.
A "single" is a song recording that has been marketed for sale as a unit, usually with a second track, or "b-side". For the most part singles also appear on a full-length album and tend to be the track(s) a record company feels have the best chance for massive sales and airplay.
1. A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley 2. Here Without You - 3 Doors Down 3. Another One Bites The Dust - Queen 4. Apologize - Timbaland 5. (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams 6. Hey Jude - The Beatles* 7. Hound Dog / Don't Be Cruel - Elvis Presley 8. I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston 9. Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye 10. Low - Flo Rida 11. Macarena - Los del Rio 12. Ridin' - Chamillionaire 13. We Are The World - USA For Africa** 14. Whoomp There It Is - Tag Team

Elvis pretty much blew everyone out of the water on this list with the exception of Elton John who was not on the list. Elvis was the only artist to be on this list twice. Pretty amazing that the single that did produce 6 million sold was ALLC in 2002, was 25 years after Elvis' death. One single 25 years later sold more than most singers in a lifetime! Elvis' two singles in the top seven came 46 years apart. That's pretty impressive as well. Talk about longevity.Good to see a list where Elvis is getting some credit unlike other list that play with numbers to make certain artist higher up(see Billboards lists) or magazines with their own agenda(see Rolling Stone magazine) who have BS lists of artist or achievements. That's another rant for another day though!

I finally got Elvis Radio!

I have been wanting Elvis Radio forever! XM radio finally has it available and I am happy. I just like the thought I can always turn to one station and I am guaranteed to like what is on. Even though I could pull my CD case out and listen to any song they play pretty much. The really cool thing is getting to listen to GK and some of the people he has on his show. It is very interesting to hear people who knew and worked with Elvis speak.

30 CD Collection on the way.

This was took from elvisnews.com. Elvis Unlimited is the source of the info.

Ernst Jorgensen is working on a 30 CD Box Set that will contain all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. The set will be USA made and a limited edition to less than 10,000 units.
Ernst Jorgensen : This is a one shot deal. It's coming, it's here, it's gone as Colonel Parker would say. It will be 30 CDs in a very prestigious packaging with a fantastic book with it. USA made limited edition less than 10,000. It's killed me for 15 months now. The work load has been absurd but I could not deny it. I could not deny being a part of that. To me, it is the most astonishing wonderful idea. Here's a whole definition at this time is that it is all official masters as released during Elvis' life time with another 3 or 4 hours (and we have to define that) of the most interesting alternate takes, demos, live recordings, home recordings. There will not be 1 unreleased element on that box because that would be brutally unfair and only encourage bootlegging. You have to want to own that thing. We're not taking you as hostages. But at the same time, it is also a total restoration of every Elvis master with new digital technology.

This for sure will cause a lot of talking amongst Elvis fans. The complaint you always hear is that too much time is spent on shoving the same Elvis material down our throat. Not enough time on the work that's still out there we do not have our hands on or the stuff that needs some updating. This set seems like a good idea to me. Do I really need to get this? Answer is no. I have pretty much stopped getting the general releases of Elvis material since I already have most of it ten times over and I concentrate on the FTD's. Though I will probably will get this if it is within reason because it just sounds like it would be neat to have and I am sure it will sound great. Though I still need to get to buying some FTD's at a fast pace. I was way behind in collecting these great treasures. I need to catch up! I just have to hold myself back and only buy a few times a year because when I do buy them I seem to spend about $150 at a time!

Fallow up to my last post...

I was on the EI forums and saw someone posted some information on the duet album and it has a partial track list.

Partial track listing (not in sequence): "I'll Be Home For Christmas" with Carrie Underwood "Blue Christmas" with Martina McBride "Here Comes Santa Claus" with LeAnn Rimes "Silent Night"with Sara Evans "Merry Christmas Baby" with Gretchen Wilson "Silver Bells" with Anne Murray "White Christmas" with Amy Grant "O Little Town" with Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” with Wynonna Judd.

Maybe the songs with Carrie, Martina, Amy, and Wynonna turn out alright. I actually like Wynonna. Not only is she cool and a big Elvis lover, she is pretty good. I have the Judd's Greatest Hits! Some of these people are pretty good. I just do not think I can ever listen to a song with someone singing with Elvis, it is a let down. I am rambling on about this. I have to let it go. I need not to get off on Gretchen Wilson next!

Elvis duet album for Christmas

As you might know an album is coming out with songs sung by both Elvis and guest artist. It is coming out later this year. When I first heard about it I was kinda going back and forth on it. I would rather just listen to the originals by Elvis as they are pretty damn good and I do not like this sort of thing. Simply because I do not really like any artist out today. According to For CD Collectors Only site an ad for this release has some details on who is on the album. The ad mentions Olivia Newton John, Cliff Richard, Adam Harvey, Guy Sebastian, Shanon Noil, Jessica Simpson, Leann Rimes and Carrie Underwood as persons who recorded a duet for the album. When I first heard this one name that popped in my mind was Carrie Underwood, I am not that big of a fan, but she is alright. I like Leann Rimes alright as well. It will not be completely awful. The rest I could do without. I will not rush to get this. More than likely as some point though it will end up in my collection. What really kills me is Jessica Simpson. Alright, shes famous for being pretty, to some people anyway. She can't sing though! I would not listen to her with Elvis for nothing. That's what makes me not want to hear this. Elvis was wonderfully gifted as a vocalist, highly underrated in my opinion. To see him paired with some people who are not even close to being in his league is awful. I am not downing the album though like some other people have seen make comments on other sites. To some degree it is good, but really, Jessica Simpson?

Terrible stuff! I mean, not the sound of cat's being killed bad, but on the same track as this man?

Finally! Date for release of Elvis and Priscilla Barbie's

The Elvis and Priscilla Barbie's are going to be released at Graceland during EW. You will only be able to get them there and they will be released in stores and such I would say very soon after that. 200 will go on sale August 12 at Graceland for around $70. I am going to be on a tour of the house when the go on sale. Damn my luck! If they still have one you can bet I will have one in my hands as soon as I can get to where they are. I think these look pretty cool and they are going to be limited. So I have to get one.

No Jailhouse Rock this October

The talk to Jailhouse Rock being released by FTD in October turns out to be just a rumor. They have not announced what the releases will be but it is for sure not going to have Jailhouse Rock in the mix. I am very disappointed over this. I was looking forward to that more than anything Elvis related in a long time.

JAILHOUSE ROCK TO BE RELEASED BY FTD

According to Elvis Information Network FTD is going to be putting out Jailhouse Rock on FTD later in the year. I have been screaming over this for a long time now. I had heard about it sometime last year, that it was in the works. I am super excited. Apparently it will contain many things never head before. I always was curious why we had not heard more from the sessions for the movie. I assumed the material was lost, but I guess not. I have not been this excited about a release in a long time.

FTD's to be pushed back

The three new FTD's that had been scheduled to come out later this month has been pushed back until the first of August. The releases are Elvis Sings Memphis Tennessee(The Lose Album), Love Letters From Elvis(classic album re-release) and the April 76 soundboard. This is really not a big deal to me. I was not going to be able to get them for some time due to saving all my money that I have not spent on my teeth and golf for EW in August.

New FTD coming in a few weeks

In a few weeks FTD has three new releases coming out. They are three look to be pretty good and I am looking forward to getting them all at some point. I am most excited about the one called Elvis sings, Memphis, Tennessee. This album was originally called The Lost Album and contained songs that should have been the next studio album for Elvis after the Pot Luck Album. The music is from 63-64. I was shopping at a used music store about eight or nine years ago and found a used copy of the original Lost Album release on CD. I fell in love with it right away. I am really looking forward to this release. FTD does such a good job with these releases I know it will be great. It of course is a two disc set which will have all the first takes and other outtakes from this group of songs. I can't wait!

Elvis had a secret Diary?

A college professor claims he has a seven volume secret diary that Elvis kept. He says he bought them with a bunch of used books in Memphis a short time back. The man says the diary spans from November of 1956 until August of 1977. This guy swears up in down these are real and says two different people have confirmed that this was Elvis' handwriting. Below are some of the entries that are suppose to have been written by Elvis.

August 14, 1958-Where are you, Mama? I know you’re here. You’re not dead. You can’t be dead. You can’t leave me, Mama. You said you’d never leave me. You promised. I’m not ready. Mama, I’m scared.

August 28, 1965The Beatles are O.K. I don’t know why John [Lennon] was so nervous [when Elvis and the Beatles met]. What did he think I was going to do, bite him? He said I inspired him. We played and sang some but we’d never make it on one stage. I’m a show. The Beatles are just a band.

April 27, 1973Should I cut my sideburns? I wonder what the girls would say? I wonder what The Colonel would say? I wonder what I’d say after they went down the drain?

August 27, 1974If I have to kiss one more fat girl I’ll puke. Where the hell are my pills?

August 15, 1977It won’t be long now, Mama. I’m coming home.

August 16, 1977I can’t go on

Why in the hell would anyone even try to pass this crap off as actual thoughts of Elvis'? Most everyone is saying this is just a bunch of nonsense, and it does not take a smart person to realize that. There is a lot of crap you read about Elvis in book and on the Internet people actually believe, but really, who would buy this? This is the most ridicules thing ever, anyone that knows anything about Elvis knows this does not even sound like him or the way he would try to convey something. You think he would really write something down about a fat girl then finish it with where the hell is my pills? I just can't get over why this dumb ass person is even trying to pass this off.

Elvis Presley on CNN.com (Well Kinda)

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Celebrity psychic Uri Geller and two partners have lost a federal lawsuit claiming the former owners of Elvis Presley's pre-Graceland house breached an eBay contract to sell the Memphis home.
Elvis Presley bought a four-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot house in 1956 with his early song royalties.
Geller, who gained fame in the 1970s for his alleged power to bend spoons and other objects with his mind, and his partners bid $905,100 for the ranch-style home in a 2006 auction by owners Cindy Hazen and Mike Freeman.
But the deal fell apart. Hazen said Geller's group altered terms of the real estate deal so that it was unacceptable. Geller said Hazen and Freeman reneged on the deal in order to sell it for more to Nashville record producer Mike Curb, who bought the house for $1 million.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Jon McCalla ruled that the eBay auction was more of an advertising vehicle than a binding sale.
Even if it was a contract, the judge said, Geller and his partners breached it when they altered the closing terms after the sale.
"I'm relieved that this is all over," Hazen told the Memphis newspaper The Commercial Appeal.
Presley bought the four-bedroom, 3,000-square-foot house in 1956 with his early song royalties. The singer, his parents and grandmother lived there for 13 months before throngs of fans forced them to move to more secluded Graceland in 1957.
Curb plans to let Rhodes College use the home as part of a new Mike Curb Music Institute.

Complete '68 Comeback Special Deluxe Package

2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the 1968 NBC special. In August BMG will release a 4 CD set focusing on the special. Several different Internet sites have talked about what the discs will contain but they all have had something different. Either way this is not something I am going to run out to pick up. I have Memories, Tiger Man, Burbank 68, and Let Yourself Go. So I cant imagine there is going to be much on this if anything, that I do not have. I will get it done day I suppose, because that's just what I do. I buy most anything to do with Elvis that's actually nice or worth buying. It is a nice looking set. I just think for the money I can find a lot better things to buy.

New DVD Now Available

The new 2 disc DVD of Elvis Presley's Graceland is now available. I have been waiting on this for a long time. This set shows off the home and tells the history of the property. Elvis and his career is discussed at length as well. Footage from home movies and many rare photos are shown in this with many other bonus features. I never got the old DVD and i held off getting for the last year because I knew this was coming. I have to have this. When I get to missing Memphis and Graceland and I can throw it in and feel a little bit better.

Parker movie to be made.

The fallowing was took from ElvisNews.com.

Producers David Permut and Steve Binder have acquired screen rights to Alanna Nash's 2003 book "The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley." Permut and Binder will develop a feature titled "The Colonel" based on the book about the man with shadowy origins who reinvented himself as the Svengali behind the world's most famous entertainer.Parker started his showbiz career as a hustler on the carnival circuit before promoting Minnie Pearl and Eddy Arnold. Parker built Presley into a global music and film star -- and took 50% of the spoils.Nash dug deeply into Parker's origins in the expose. While Parker always claimed to be American, Nash uncovered a past life in the Netherlands that included his possible involvement in the bludgeoning death of a female acquaintance. Though that murder remains unsolved, Permut said the event may factor into the script because it's one explanation of why Parker left abruptly for America and rarely ventured outside the U.S. Presley famously never went on a European tour because Parker didn't want to go there.Permut said he and Binder (who produced Presley's 1968 comeback TV special) set up the project after hiring a writer and director. Steve Longi will be co-producer.

I think this might be pretty neat to see something about the Tom Parker. However I wish it was a fair interpretation and they don't just make this about him being low,a crook, blah blah blah. I don't think it is any secret Binder didn't like Parker. I don't share the same opinon of most Presley fans who think Parker was the devil who led Elvis to hell and all that nonsense. This movie will be interesting though.
